Pam Buckman

Pam Buckman is the Special Projects Supervisor in the Horticulture Department of Audubon Park and Zoo. She is responsible for the management and supervision of volunteers in horticulture as well as the development and management of horticulture therapy programming on and off site. Buckman has her Masters in Social Work from Tulane University and completed the Master Gardener Program of the LSU Agriculture Center. She has also completed a Certificate Program in Horticulture Therapy Studies through Colorado State University and the Denver Botanic Garden. Buckman, a licensed social worker, has previously worked in the criminal justice system in the Orleans Parish Prison and New Orleans Police Department Child Abuse Section, event planning, fund-raising, work in weight management/ eating. Her background led her to realize a need for horticulture/gardening as a rehabilitative therapeutic activity.

Brain Injury Recovery

In the United States, 5.3 million people are living with a TBI (traumatic brain injury) disability and over 5 million more Americans have acquired a brain injury through stroke or other causes.

In Louisiana, 90 out of every 100,000 residents have some form of a brain injury.

1,000 out of every 100,000 metro Orleans area residents acquire brain injuries.

Funds raised from the event will go to local brain injury education and recovery programs.

The 3rd Annual BIALA Conference is March 25 and 26, 2010 in Covington, Louisiana at the Greater Covington Center.
